On the morning of July 14, more than 100 Paramount interns eagerly tuned in from across the country to volunteer their time and talent. Just a month after Paramount’s first Hybrid Employee Community Day, the interns were thrilled to have their own opportunity to give back.

Intern Community Day is an annual opportunity for Paramount’s cohort of summer interns to connect with communities, hosted by Paramount’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team in conjunction with and the Paramount Campus & Early Career team. This year, interns spread their impact across two unique organizations, Project Somos and GlamourGals, for a total of over 100 volunteer hours!

The interns started the morning with Ari Gomez and the Somos project team. Project Somos is a nonprofit organization that works to establish educational environments for at-risk Guatemalan children through early childhood education, school support, and nutrition programs. Due to COVID-19 and ongoing socio-economic pressure, many Guatemalan children are out of school and missing out on crucial educational opportunities.

The Somos Project educated Paramount interns on the state of Guatemalan education in 2022 as well as the importance of their own work in addressing these educational gaps before sending them to create their own educational materials. The interns particularly appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the organization and more specifically about the community of Chivarabal, from which their work would benefit.

Intern Sofia Silvosa commented, “I thought this project was perfect for me as a native Spanish speaker with a passion for bilingual educational initiatives.”

From flash cards to bingo to read-aloud stories, interns have worked hard to create language practice tools for Guatemalan indigenous children ages 5-12.

Later that day, the interns had the chance to help a senior community in a big way with GlamourGals. GlamourGals connects young volunteers with older residents to build cross-generational relationships and build a sense of belonging in both communities.

“Thanks to Paramount, 100 seniors in residential care will receive maps and feel connected to the community,” noted coordinator Amanda Kruzynski.

On this Community Intern Day, the GlamourGals team led Paramount volunteers in creating maps to reduce social isolation for seniors in residential care. This opportunity was especially special for intern Ximena Elizondo who noted, “this activity was one of my favorite things about my internship so far.

In fact, the chance to participate in Community Intern Day has proven meaningful for many volunteer interns. The majority of interns found this event to have had a significant positive impact on their experience with the company, according to the results of the feedback survey. Additionally, the interns wanted to continue their long-term work to support the organizations they volunteered with.

Every summer, new interns flock to Paramount for the opportunity to work for one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the United States. The excitement around Community Intern Day proves that for this next generation of employees, a good work environment is about more than job responsibilities and office layouts. Interns want to see a corporate service culture and have the chance to positively impact the communities around them.

The Intern Community Day and other employee engagement efforts across the company show that Paramount prioritizes supporting the needs of its employees and community. Partnerships with organizations like GlamourGals and Project Somos ignite a passionate group of community-minded employees who are ready and enthusiastic to volunteer their time and creativity.
