Melissa Kelley, 33, allegedly brought the child into a house, placed him on the floor and told a woman that her father would be coming to pick up the baby, Fox 35 reported.
According to the audio of the 911 call, the owner, Patricia Tillman, did not know Kelley, but later determined that the child’s father was her daughter’s 28-year-old boyfriend, Clayton Zinck.
“My daughter is dating her ex-boyfriend, or whatever,” Tillman said on the call. “And she turned around and just left her baby.”
Tillman said the woman at his front door pushed the baby inside and walked away.
When the dispatcher asked her if she knew the woman’s name, Tillman replied, “I have no idea who she is.”
After the woman left, Tillman attempted to contact her daughter’s boyfriend, Zinck.
Tillman couldn’t reach him, so she contacted her parents that night. They said they wouldn’t take the baby or wake Zinck, according to The Daytona Beach Newspaper.
That same night, Kelley allegedly threatened to kill herself because Zinck had broken off their relationship, the newspaper said, prompting police to use her cellphone location to find her. They eventually took her into custody in Astor Woods.
Now Kelley faces charges of unlawful desertion of a child across county lines and child neglect — both third-degree felonies.
She was released on Tuesday on $2,000 bond, according to court records.
The child is in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families and was being treated for scabies at a hospital.
Kelley was also arrested in 2013 for aggravated battery, according to court records.
