The University of New Mexico, Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking an innovative and experienced leader for the position of Vice Chair, Research. The Vice Chair will direct staff and provide guidance and support to faculty for the purpose of enhancing the research mission of the department. The Vice Chair?s responsibilities span a set of research programs that address the priorities of the Department, the School of Medicine, the Health Sciences Center, the state of New Mexico and federal research agendas. The UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) includes a NCI-funded cancer research and treatment center, NCI-SEER registry, Institute for Public Health, a Center for Native American Health, an advanced neuro-imaging center (MIND institute), and a primary care physicians? research network (RIOSNet). The department provides substantial expertise in community engagement, participatory research and public health. There are opportunities for collaboration with the NM Department of Health, the US Public Health Service/Indian Health Service, local units of government and tribes and tribally-sanctioned organizations. The successful applicant will be expected to come with a current research program or the ability to develop one, and to be able to translate current work to the context of New Mexico. Applicant?s research interests would ideally be related to the Health Science Center?s signature program areas? brain and behavioral illnesses, cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, child health research, environmental health sciences, and infectious diseases and immunity. The applicant will be expected to have a strong track record of extramural funding and related publications, and the Vice Chair will be expected to bring in extramural research funding. Minimum Requirements:?Earned doctorate - Ph.D., Dr.P.H., M.D. or equivalent degree?Must be eligible to work in the U.S.Preferred requirements:?At least Associate Professor, or equivalent, in rank. ?Experience working with diverse medically underserved populations.?Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teaching, research, and community-based practice research.?Interest and/or experience in health disparities and health services. ?History of leading an independent research program.?Demonstrated solid history of an extramurally funded research program, in one or more of the HSC six signature programs, or the potential to develop such a program.?Demonstrated history of national and state presentations, and evidence of serving in the capacity as an expert in his/her field. ?Demonstrated experience in developing research collaborations with both family medicine and public health faculty.Salary:Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
