The trial lawyer will be responsible for representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially secure commercial insurance carrier, by preparing and trying general liability cases from a challenging and varied caseload. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a financially stable and respected Company and represent its insureds in all phases of litigation, while being part of a high-performing law office handling challenging cases. Engages in the practice of law, at all times in compliance with the ethical standards as established by the national/local area of practice. Performs duties such as provides legal analysis and advice, prepares and files legal pleadings and documents, performs legal research, prepares for and conducts pre-trial discovery, prepares for and handles judicial hearing and trials, and conducts post-trial activities where appropriate.Qualified candidates will possess 5 plus years of liability litigation and courtroom experience (some 1st chair jury trial experience preferred), with substantial experience in Florida. Candidates must be admitted to the Florida state bar. Insurance defense experience and competent reporting and PC skills also desired.Job QualificationsBachelors Degree or equivalent5 or more years of related experience.1. LLB or JD with national/local Bar license and national/local Bar admission.2. Minimum of 5 years litigation experience, to include first chair insurance defense courtroom litigation.3. Self-starter with proven experience as a member of a litigation 'team' is preferred.4. Demonstrated case analysis ability and a track record of proven trial settlement skills a must.6. Litigation experience desired with experience in insurance industry claims or underwriting.7. PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Lotus Notes, Access and CWS and significant knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw.8. Must be well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.9. 1st and 2nd chair jury trial experience preferred.10. Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure.11. Has knowledge of billables and diary review with substantive and procedural legal knowledge.12. Understands the staff legal function and role in overall business.
