Job Description:---------------------------------------------Applied Physics Intern (one year appointment)---------------------------------------------Summary: We are seeking a *highly self-motivated* candidate (must be aU.S. citizen) for a post-Masters or post-Baccalaureate position in appliedphysics/bioengineering/chemical engineering in support of microfluidicflow-based instrument development efforts. Areas of physics and engineeringaddressed in these experiments include DC, transient, and CW field-basedmicromanipulation, optical interrogation including micro-optics, andmicrofluidic handling. The successful candidate will work with a motivatedand highly multidisciplinary team of biologists, biochemists, physicistsand engineers within Bioscience division at Los Alamos National Lab (NewMexico).Job Requirements:Required Skills: 1) A background in one or more of the following areas:applied physics, material science, or bioengineering 2) A demonstratedcapability in innovative thinking and commitment as evidenced by academicrecord and letters of reference. 2) An ability to work effectively both ina team environment and semi-independently with guidance to meet scientificgoals of a project. 3) Effective verbal and written communication skills.4) An ability to work efficiently under pressure in a rapidly changingenvironment. 5) Excellent organizational skills.Desired Skills: The successful candidate should have a background in oneor more of the following areas: physics - especially optics, RF/analogelectronic theory, microfluidics, and a familiarity with instrumentaltechniques.This is a one year temporary position, with a possibility of permanentemployment at the end of this appointment.
